Talk and tango - preview

Fiona Foulkes describes her two-week course on conflict resolution

Talk Together, a new initiative, met for its inaugural conference this August in Oxford
  • Aimed at teaching students conflict resolution skills and providing a forum for students from either side of a conflict to come together, I was lucky enough to attend as a ‘neutral’ student
  • As a group of twenty-two, including eight Saharawis, we studied the so-called ‘forgotten’ conflict of Western Sahara alongside the techniques used for conflict resolution
  • We were, originally, to be joined by groups of six students from Laayoune, in the Western Sahara area (the ‘Oxford Six’) and seven Moroccan students, but both groups were prevented from attending
