Multiculturalism policies examined
A new report on multiculturalism argues that current policies have become increasingly discredited and calls for real discussion of hard issues among communities
In ‘Combining Diversity with Common Citizenship’, Mike Waite suggests that policies once accepted unquestioningly, such as local government funding for an Asian women’s centre, are now more controversial as integration becomes the preferred policy The report, produced for the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, recommends a policy that values both diversity and a common citizenship, as well as encouraging dialogue between politicians, workers and residents
