Ruth Harrison’s comments (20 March) were interesting, but presumably she has not realised the implication that taken as a whole, the pattern of government expenditure is preferable to that of our own Society However, I think she is probably correct that she is probably a minority of one

Considering that the government is sub-contracting work to charities to plug gaps where they don’t directly provide a service (Age Concern providing home carers for example), it seems a great idea to me to support those charities So I think Gift Aid is a brilliant way of getting some of the tax to go where help is greatly needed
