  • Robert Barclay Fox, who began his journal in 1832 at the age of fourteen, was a member of a prominent Cornish Quaker family with business connections linking it to almost every part of the British Isles
  • Through many inter-marriages he was closely related to most of the leading Quaker families – the Barclays, the Lloyds, the Gurneys and the Frys (Elizabeth Fry was his mother’s first cousin) are all mentioned frequently
