On 14 January the state of Texas completed its first execution of a prisoner this year There were six scheduled to be killed before the end of the month
I have been involved in death penalty issues since the beginning of 2000 The first friend I had since then was executed in Texas in 2005 To become real friends with a man facing death because he killed someone is a deeply moving experience It is possible that you will be the only friend he has You may well be the only one who has treated him like a human being for many years
