British Quakers and overseas peace work
I share Judith Baker’s anguish (‘Is this really what you meant to happen?’, 16 January) at the ending of Quaker work in the former Yugloslav countries when our friends there still need our support Our relationships in the region are of long standing and the work, which is of pioneering importance, deserved our continued moral and practical backing as well as our ongoing accompaniment
We have become infected with ‘managerialism’ and the love of fixed terms, which make things safe and containable by limiting commitment The balance between the spirit and good housekeeping (and the overlap between them) needs to be rediscovered
