Radio programme reveals online pornography costs
An investigation into the effects of online pornography on children and family life has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4
The programme, Online Damage: Porn in the twenty-first Century, traced the huge rise in the number of pornographic websites from around fourteen million in 1998 to 260 million in 2003 One in ten websites is pornographic and the industry is a multimillion-dollar business, largely driven from the USA Restricting access to these websites is difficult: while there are filters to block pornographic material installed in most new computers, users generally do not turn them on and internet service providers (the companies that connect users to the internet) do not generally police sites
