‘Lishmo’ is a Hebrew word meaning ‘for its own sake’
The term lishmoism is proposed for an approach to doing things The lishmoist undertakes a project for its own sake, rather than with an eye on possible profit or other material advantage
It is not claimed that one ought to embrace lishmoism as a lifestyle! For a person whose project is his business, his source of livelihood, such an approach would obviously be very inappropriate But there are many circumstances in life in which, it is suggested, lishmoism can prove a very rewarding outlook; the term ‘rewarding’ being used with reference to inner satisfaction, not financial gain
