Membership: what does it mean?
What does it mean to be a member of the Religious Society of Friends?
There are no rules or subscriptions defining the rights or responsibilities of members but we all know that there are things to be done which use both human and financial resources We cannot all contribute in the same way or to the same degree but when a Meeting accepts someone into membership, both sides should acknowledge that there are responsibilities
For many of us involvement in the local community of Quakers is an important part of membership Some members choose not to attend Local Meeting and do not respond to correspondence This makes it virtually impossible for local overseers and elders to care for their spiritual and pastoral needs
Jackie Fowler & Barbara Forbes
