Israeli war resisters reveal support
Conscientious objectors in Israel have delivered over 20,000 messages supporting their stand to the Israeli government
The messages were presented to the Israeli Ministry of Defense on 18 December by the Shministim, a group of young Israelis refusing to serve in the military after finishing their schooling because of the continued occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territories Many of them have been repeatedly imprisoned for their beliefs
Jewish-American group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) backed the 18 December campaign, which called for Shministim supporters to take part in a massive letter-writing campaign to pressure the Israeli government to release their imprisoned colleagues Cecilie Surasky of JVP said the campaign ‘exceeded all of our expectations, securing unprecedented media coverage in mainstream outlets both inside of Israel and throughout the world, which strengthened the resolve of the Shministim’
