Does God respond to prayer? - preview
There seems to be a reluctance in some Quaker circles to use the word God in ministry I think this is a pity, for surely the word is simply one that humans employ to stand for a concept of divinity that they cannot comprehend Nowhere is it harder to avoid the G-word than when talking about prayer
Anyone troubled by philosophical questions about prayer should find it rewarding to read Philip Yancey’s book entitled Prayer: Does it make any difference? (Hodder & Stoughton, 2006)
Although Yancey comes from an American evangelical background, he does not dodge the difficult issues raised by his chosen subject but looks at them fairly and squarely without using theological jargon One of those issues is the extent to which prayer can affect God’s will
