Border Country - preview

Oliver Robertson reports on the exhibition

Wander round the back of Heathrow airport’s Sheraton hotel and you will see a set of low-rise red and cream buildings sitting behind tall fences and barbed wire
  • This is Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre (IRC)
  • This is Border Country

  • Melanie Friend’s exhibition of the places refused asylum seekers go to live in uncertainty, awaiting deportation or release, was four years in the making and encompasses eight IRCs across England
  • Using photographs and audio extracts of interviews with detainees, she provides a glimpse of life in detention today

  • Oliver Robertson
