Barmoor’s centenary
The sun burst out over North Yorkshire in late August to add a touch of glory to a hundredth birthday party
  • It was not the anniversary of a person but of a house, Barmoor at Hutton-le-Hole

  • In 1908 William and Anna Maria Harvey, Leeds Quakers, had the house built in a wonderful position on the edge of the North York moors
  • From the beginning it was much loved, bringing refreshment and peace not only to their large family but also to many other friends and Quaker groups
  • It is now run by a charity managed by some of the third and fourth generations of Harvey descendants along with other Quakers
  • The house is now used for holidays for religious and educational groups and those who give service to the disadvantaged
