Barmoor’s centenary
The sun burst out over North Yorkshire in late August to add a touch of glory to a hundredth birthday party It was not the anniversary of a person but of a house, Barmoor at Hutton-le-Hole
In 1908 William and Anna Maria Harvey, Leeds Quakers, had the house built in a wonderful position on the edge of the North York moors From the beginning it was much loved, bringing refreshment and peace not only to their large family but also to many other friends and Quaker groups It is now run by a charity managed by some of the third and fourth generations of Harvey descendants along with other Quakers The house is now used for holidays for religious and educational groups and those who give service to the disadvantaged
