Uncertainty is an inescapable part of being human, arising as it does from our awareness – unique in nature – that life is fragile and unpredictable and will, sooner or later and we never know when, come to an inexorable end
Uncertainty takes you into limbo, into a place of anxiety and fear, varying from the uncomfortable to the agonising So we try to avoid it: we put up shields, we go into denial None of these are in the long term effective, for the certainty we seek is illusory
