Finding a future for our Meeting - preview
Kath Worrall, clerk of Mosedale Local Quaker Meeting, describes their approach to falling membership and too many jobs as they walk cheerfully into the unknown
Mosedale Meeting House lies at the top end of the Lake District National Park, in Back o' Skiddaw country It's a long low stone built building with 1702 above the door The Meeting owns the adjacent barn and garth (a little enclosed green space with a tiny beck running through it) and across the road an old burial ground and car park
Inside, we have the Meeting room, the former warden's accommodation (now a useful kitchen/separate space for tenants when we let the property) and a sort of utility area It's a building with a very special atmosphere that is commented on by visitors of all kinds For many years we ran it as a coffee shop throughout the summer months, an unconventional but effective form of outreach I have met people all over the world whose first exposure to Quakerism was via a cup of coffee or a shepherd's lunch at Mosedale
