Tough times for war resisters in Canada despite parliament’s help - preview
Robin Long, an Iraq-war resister from the US who had claimed asylum in Canada, was due to be deported from his adopted homeland this week

  • On the same day as Robin's arrest on 4 July another war resister, Joshua Key, won a judicial review against the decision to refuse him asylum

  • More Canadians have become aware of the plight of American war resisters in their country thanks to activists from the War Resisters Support Campaign
  • Supported by a group from the peace churches, including Canadian Friends Service Committee (CFSC), a proactive media approach to de-mystify the subject and to educate people about conscientious objection has been launched
