‘Fur das Kind’ - preview

It was with a great sense of privilege and gratitude that, as a Quaker, Audrey B Insley of South Manchester LM went to the unveiling of a sculpture in memory of the Kindertransport in Vienna in March

The sculpture

A young boy sits on a suitcase at the Westbahnhof, a busy railway station from which the Kinder left their homeland
  • The young boy, Sam Morris, probably seven years old at the time that the sculpture was modelled on him, is in fact a great-grandson of one of the original Kindertransport
  • At the unveiling Sam gave a very composed speech 'in thanksgiving for his great-grandmother's safety in England or else he would not be there with us today'
  • The official unveiling was performed by the Austrian federal minister of transport and took place at the Westbahnhof

  • Audrey B Insley
