Quaker prison ministers seek change
Quaker Prison Ministers meeting at Woodbrooke in October for their annual conference welcomed William Noblett, the chaplain general for all UK prisons, as our keynote speaker
  • The conference was entitled 'Creative Ministry – achieving change in difficult circumstances'

  • William Noblett has worked tirelessly for the inclusion of all faiths in all prison chaplaincies, a change instigated by Martin Narey, a former director general of prisons, to reflect the multi-cultural, multi-faith nature of today's society
  • William Noblett is sure this was the right thing to do, although some Christian chaplains are less than happy with the change
  • We felt that William Noblett was among friends, as well as Friends, at Woodbrooke
  • He spoke also of the need for discussions of deep theological issues across all faiths: not just comparisons and contrasts of differing beliefs and practices, but at the much deeper level of what lies beneath faith
