Star House - preview

Margaret Crompton tells us about this portait of a building which ‘pays homage to friendship, to endurance, aspiration, fidelity, generosity’

Star House is the portrait of a great skeletal glass house on Ruskington Fen, Lincolnshire
  • The intricate structure of pillars and struts is delicately re-created into a filigree of formal triangles and rectangles framing the green Fen-landscape and blue sky dissected by white clouds
  • At night, you could view stars through the frames, whether filled with glass or, as now, empty
  • And Alan Parker's intention is to create a memorial to a man who on many nights looked at stars through this roof and walls, and his friend who made it possible
  • I was recently privileged to spend a morning with Alan and Star House
