Drive-thru immigration detention centre opened
The government has set up a mobile immigration removal centre to help with the speedy detection and removal of suspected illegal immigrants
The centre, a purpose-built lorry with the capacity to hold up to twelve people for up to twelve hours, is being used to provide immigration facilities at ports too small to have a permanent presence The scheme is currently at the pilot stage, with just one lorry covering southeast England Rather than transport people around the country, the centre will travel to different ports as needed and operate as a temporary though static facility The van comes equipped with a toilet, hot shower, television and DVD player
