Deportations to the Congo – truth, integrity and the threat to life and liberty - preview

Margaret Johnston of Marsden MM alerts us to a coming tragedy

The Home Office has chartered a plane to fly to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday 30 August
  • Several people are already in custody to ensure they will be on it

  • The government is satisfied that it is safe to return asylum seekers to the Congo (see, for example, www
  • pm
  • gov
  • uk/output/Page12237
  • asp)
  • This is very strange, because there is an appeal case pending, known as a 'country guidance' case, which if successful would have the effect of amending the current advice on whether it is safe to return people to the Congo
  • This case has twice been adjourned at Home Office request, most recently at the beginning of July, on the grounds that there has not been sufficient time to examine all the evidence
