Visas for the Triennial in Dublin - preview

Clerk of the FWCC Triennial Local Arrangements Committee Jonathan Pim explores the visa lessons from organising an international gathering

The comments in the recent issue of The Friend (10 August) about visas told the truth but not the whole truth
  • The true part was the role played by Christina Birch of BYM
  • She worked incredibly hard, pushing all and sundry (including the official of the Irish Department of Immigration handling our case) to get as many visas as possible issued in time
  • Only a handful failed to arrive, mainly because they either couldn't or wouldn't complete the documentation correctly

  • Getting state approval for the visas is of course another story
  • Everyone was aware of recent problems experienced by Friends when trying to run international conferences
  • A number of important decisions arose from this:
