Satyagraha – an opera about Gandhi - preview
We thought this would be just the thing for a Quaker night out at the London Coliseum English National Opera are currently giving the UK premier of this 1980 opera by the minimalist American composer Philip Glass Satyagraha, literally 'truth force', is a variety of nonviolent resistance developed by Mahatma Gandhi Gandhi deployed satyagraha in campaigns for Indian independence and during his earlier struggles in South Africa This work focuses on Gandhi's life in South Africa up to 1914 It did prove to be a very suitable Quaker night out but not entirely for the reasons we had expected
