Sometimes you wait for ages for a robust response to Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion, and then two come along at once with the same title McGrath is a molecular biologist turned theologian, whose slim volume examines the main points of Dawkins' work with scholarly scrutiny, often with the mildly hurt tone of a disappointed headmaster In his longer, more detailed critique, Callahan as the self-styled 'Dirty Harry of Theology' plays much on the analogy of his namesake in the movies and attacks his subject vigorously with chapter headings such as 'Lies, Damn lies and Dawkins'
