Usually when one picks up someone's biography especially an artist's, the author talks about the person's early life, the social events and trends that might have had an influence on him (often it's a him) Then there is a entire section on the artistic expressions, meanings and symbolism A topic that seems to fascinate historians is how the economic, political forces and fashions of the day shaped and moulded our hero and his works There will be a section on his artistic career: who he met, who he worked with, who worked for him and then went on to greater things, and so on and so – a litany of names and places known only to the cognoscenti
