Trident
In addition to writing to our MPs, as suggested in your article about Michael Bartlet's work as parliamentary liasion secretary of QPSW (26 January), many friends, including myself, have been to the Faslane naval base near Glasgow to protest about Trident
  • No fewer than ten friends from my own Meeting were able to go to Faslane for the November 'Northern Friends' protest
  • Four of us were arrested for peaceful 'blockading', ie sitting in front of the entrance; the oldest was in her seventies and the youngest was just seventeen! I was also arrested and held in police custody for a total of thirty-three hours, then released without charge
  • I found the experience both moving and deeply spiritual
  • Indeed, I am still coming to terms with it
  • The hospitality provided by Glasgow Friends was wonderful, the sea loch and surrounding beauty of the landscape were awe inspiring and were in stark contrast to the man made horror that lay within the rolls of razor wire

Meeting for Communion - I wonder, what does the word 'communion' mean to the average person in the street? What images might it conjour up?
