Last month the government pulled off a small but important u-turn when they announced (hours before a debate on the subject called by the opposition) that they would not be making all parts of the Home Information Packs compulsory The home condition report is now not going to be a requirement of these packs, although it is still recommended The minister's timing was impeccable, coming as it did just a week after Dr Reid's u-turn on the proposed mergers of police forces
