Joyce Trotman of Croydon Meeting signed copies of her newly published book 'The Proverbs of Guyana Explained' at its publisher's launch in Croydon Meeting House on 1 August
This occasion brought together over 100 people from the London Guyanese community, as well as friends and Friends Joyce gave a vivid and lively account of the history and provenance of Guyanese proverbs with much appreciated and humorous quotations 1 August is Emancipation Day in Guyana and parts of the Caribbean and others followed Joyce with traditional songs and poems celebrating the emancipation of the slaves in Guyana The launch became a celebration when followed by food and drink to bring and share, which I was assured was a Guyanese tradition – one they share with Quakers
