Beirut days continued... - preview
In a series of emails to UK Friends and The Friend, Tony Manasseh of Brummana Meeting tells the unfolding tragic story of Lebanon as he prepares to leave the city of Beirut
July 25th: So far the death toll is about 400 people, mostly children and aged and immobile, and 700,000 Lebanese refugees filling up public schools in safe or relatively safe areas all over Lebanon Some who can afford it are in hotels or rented flats in extra safe areas (although eventually there may not be anywhere safe if this dirty war goes on)
Some desperate refugees are in open areas like public gardens and forests The situation… of the overwhelming majority is deplorable Living on one meal a day, limited water supply, fifteen to forty per room, 100 people per toilet, very limited medical care, if any, no medications, especially for the elderly with chronic diseases and short of practically everything
Tony Manasseh
