Pilgrim’s progress - preview
Thou comest to Meeting as thou went from it, and goes from it as thou came to it, but art no better for thy coming; what will thou do in the end? (Ann Wilson – Brigflatts)

Travelling distances to the holy places – Canterbury, Mecca, Compostella, Kandy – was not something I associated with Quakerism, it is not that sort of religion But pilgrimage is also a journey, actual and spiritual; a visit to places of special association or meaning from which the pilgrim should derive historical insight and spiritual refreshment A pilgrimage should educate and enthuse the newcomer and revitalise the more experienced so that both are the better for their coming
Recently, I participated, with 12 others, in a three day 'pilgrimage' to some of the sites of special Quaker interest in '1652 country' – the cradle of Quakerism in the North West of England The 1652 Country Pilgrimage was one of the events held at Swarthmoor Hall Our group comprised those fairly new to Quakerism as well as Friends who had been in membership for many years
