Peace work - preview
Hull Friends and attenders were joined by Friends from other Meetings in the Monthly Meeting and by Hull Christians for Peace for a double event in May
As a memorial to our Friend Ron Huzzard, his sister Dorothy Edwards had commissioned a light for our conservatory and this was the occasion at which she and her husband Donald presented it to us We were delighted that Rosalie and Valerie Huzzard were also present
The memorial light is a wall-mounted lantern with coloured glass panels, designed by Martin Valatin and made by Judith Maxwell, attenders at Bradford-on-Avon Meeting Martin outlined the thoughts which underlay the design, taking as its central theme Christian witness to the Word and Light of God from its origins to the present: from inner inspiration to active engagement in the world Truth to Power over time and space It incorporates a mosaic based on an Anglo-Saxon cross found locally, surrounded by the opening text of Tyndales translation of the gospel of John, with other relevant phrases
