‘Write to Life’ - preview

Sheila Hayman describes her work with the ‘Write to Life’ project run by the Medical Foundation for the Care of

I was brought up as a Friend, with a mother actually born in the Quaker village of New Earswick, and a father who was born a Lutheran Jew in Cologne and only signed up on marriage
  • But I fled the Quakers for almost thirty years before deciding, with the birth of my own children, that perhaps I ought to give them some sort of moral network for their lives, and that perhaps the least worst was the Quakers’

  • So my ties with the Society, overall, have been a bit tenuous
  • But it probably isn’t coincidence that after this childhood indoctrination in equality and peace, I should find myself working with a group of people from all over the world, most of them victims in some way of conflict, on equal terms, and with a common purpose that you could probably call testimony
